| UPDATE Mon 170400 1637 | kirsi@korhonen.net checked into the hospital today around 1200, trying to induce labour with medication. We'll see. |
| UPDATE Mon 170400 1700 | first dose of medication at 1530, second coming at 1930. Not much progress yet. |
| UPDATE Mon 170400 1948 | Karri (karri@korhonen.net) dropped by to check out the vibes at dept. 11, pretty chilled out. No significant progress at that time, which was before 1930 dose. |
| UPDATE Tue 180400 0800 | No nightly phone calls, I guess nothing has happened yet. Karri is going out to Aunt Henzu's for today. Change of scenery and crowd every once in a while is probably exciting. Different toys, different plays. |
| UPDATE Tue 180400 1148 | Project moving forward: Kirsi has been moved into the delivery room. Don't know at the moment how fast everything is happening, but going to find out now. She has an IV, shooting up something accelerating maybe. We'll see what happens, stay tuned for more updates. We might have a new family member today. |
| UPDATE Tue 180400 1533 | Contractions getting more intense. She's on laughing gas. This is hard but something is happening to the right direction. :-) |
| UPDATE Tue 180400 1824 | Water broken deliberately 1650, epidural 1730. I'm not sure how well it works, but it helps some. She's trying to get some rest right now. Might still take awhile, hard to tell. |
| UPDATE Wed 190400 0243 |
After some additional medication the situation was much more relaxed for a
while, epidural seemed to work a bit better etc. Around 2100 the real push
started. We got to the point of seeing the baby's hair, but he refused to
exit. Suction cup maneuvers didn't succeed either, so it was c-section
calling again.
The same operating room, and some of the same ppl that delivered Karri 3 years earlier. Talk about deja vu-experience. :-) Like last time, I got to wash the dude and hang out by the incubator, where all c-section babies spend their first hour or so, while Kirsi was patched up. She was then transported to the wake-up room, where they could monitor closely the recovery from anaesthesia. At the time of this writing (0110) the dude is at dept.13@OYS, sleeping after a hefty dose of milk. The nurse just told me that they're transporting Kirsi to this dept. in half an hour. I'm hanging out at the day room of the dept. 13, typing this update for y'all information-hungry surfers. The nurse just brought coffee and pulla for me. Nice touch. So it is a boy. date of birth 180400 time of birth 2214 weight@birth 4100 g length@birth 53 cm head diameter 36,5 cm APGAR points 9,9,10 |
| UPDATE Wed 030500 1449 | The nurse from the local health center came over to check out the dude. Weight: 4400 g. Everything's OK. According to Agent Cooper and Joonas, there's nothing like urinating in open air. :-) |
| UPDATE Wed 250500 | Visited Joonas' fave nurse, Mirkku, at her office. Time for some measurements, you see. The dude weighted 5210 g and max hair elevation from the ground (read: length) is 56 cm. Right on the +1 above average -graph, like his big bro before him. |
